Claude is the model we reach for first on non-trivial code, and it powers Anthropic's own coding agent, Claude Code. It's the model most likely to read the surrounding code, follow your conventions, and produce a refactor that doesn't break the tests. Claude and ChatGPT essentially tied. Claude wins slightly on data-pipeline and ML code; ChatGPT on web-frameworks.
