Prompt Engineering Tool Updated October 2026

Prompt Optimizer: Better AI Results in One Click

MultipleChat's Prompt Optimizer rewrites your message into a clearer, more specific instruction before you send it to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Grok. You see the result, adjust it, and send. Included in the Pro plan.

  • Keeps your intent and facts
  • Preserves URLs, numbers and code
  • Answers in your language

Why AI Answers Disappoint

Most weak answers come from short prompts that leave the model guessing. It fills the gaps with the most generic version of what you asked for.

Missing goal

"Write about remote work" could mean a blog post, a policy or a tweet. The model picks one.

Missing context

Without knowing who the answer is for, the model writes for no one in particular.

Missing format

No length or structure means a wall of text you then have to reshape by hand.

How the Prompt Optimizer Works

Four steps, all inside the MultipleChat message box. Nothing is sent until you choose to send it.

  1. 1

    Write your prompt

Type your request in the message input as you normally would. The Optimize button activates once you've typed something.

  2. 2

    Click Optimize

A window opens showing the rewritten prompt in an editable text box.

  3. 3

    Add details with enrichment chips

Click chips such as Audience, Tone, Length, Structure, Images or Sources to append a placeholder line, then fill it in.

  4. 4

    Use or send

Edit the text if needed, then click Use to replace your original message, or Use & Send to replace and send it immediately.

Before and After

An illustrative example of a rough prompt and an optimized version. Real rewrites depend on what you type.

Before

explain SEO

  • No goal: definition, tutorial or checklist?
  • No audience or level of detail
  • No length or format

Typical result

A textbook definition of SEO, pitched at no one in particular, that you then have to follow up on with two or three more prompts.

After optimization

Explain what search engine optimization (SEO) is and how it works. Cover the three main areas: on-page, technical and off-page SEO. Give one simple example for each, then list three first steps a beginner can take. Use short sections with headings and bullet points.

Audience: [small business owner, no technical background]
Length: [about 300 words]

  • Clear task and scope
  • Defined output format
  • Audience and Length lines added with chips, filled in by you

What the Optimizer Adds

A good AI prompt optimizer fills the gaps a model would otherwise guess at. The Prompt Optimizer works on four of them.

Structure

Turns a vague request into clear, imperative instructions in a logical order, so the model knows what to do first and what to deliver.

Context

Expands minimal prompts just enough to be actionable, and the Audience and Sources chips prompt you for the background only you can supply.

Constraints

Makes scope and limits explicit. Chips for Length and Tone let you pin down how long and in what voice the answer should be.

Output format

Spells out the shape of the answer: sections, bullet points, a table or a step list, so you get something you can use without reformatting.

What it leaves alone

  • Your intent. It clarifies the request, it doesn't change what you're asking for.
  • Your facts. URLs, numbers, filenames and code blocks stay exactly as written.
  • Your language. A German prompt comes back in German.

How It Compares to Other Prompt Improvers

OpenAI and Anthropic both offer prompt optimizers for developers. Here is where each one fits.

Tool Where it runs Built for Models
MultipleChat Prompt Optimizer The chat message box Everyday prompts before you send them ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Perplexity
OpenAI prompt optimizer OpenAI Playground (API account) Developers refining and migrating API prompts OpenAI models
Anthropic prompt improver Anthropic's developer Console Developers improving prompt templates Claude
Prompt templates Copy and paste Repeating a known task Any, but they don't adapt to your input

Tips for Writing Better Prompts Yourself

The optimizer handles structure. These habits add what only you know.

  1. 1

Say what the answer is for

"For a client email" or "for a slide" changes length, tone and format more than any other detail.

  2. 2

    Name the audience

Beginners, executives and engineers need different words and different depth.

  3. 3

    Give the material

Paste the draft, data or notes instead of describing them. Models work best on real input.

  4. 4

    Ask for a format

A table, five bullets, or a 200-word summary. Be specific about length.

  5. 5

    Show an example

One short sample of the style or structure you want beats a paragraph of adjectives.

  6. 6

    Iterate in the same chat

If the first answer misses, say what is wrong ("too formal", "skip the intro") instead of starting over.

One Better Prompt, Every Model

The optimized prompt goes back into the normal message box, so it works with everything else in MultipleChat.

Compare answers

Send one optimized prompt to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok and read the answers side by side.

Work with your files

Use clearer instructions on documents, spreadsheets and PDFs in Projects.

Image prompts too

The Images chip adds a line for visual details before you generate.

Prompt Optimizer FAQ

What is a prompt optimizer?

A prompt optimizer (also called a prompt enhancer or prompt improver) rewrites a rough request into a clearer instruction for an AI model: it states the goal, orders the steps and spells out the output format, so the model has less to guess. MultipleChat's Prompt Optimizer does this inside the chat box, before you send the message.

How do I use the Prompt Optimizer in MultipleChat?

Type your prompt in the message input and click Optimize. A window opens with the rewritten prompt in an editable text box and enrichment chips such as Audience, Tone, Length, Structure, Images and Sources underneath. Click a chip to add a line you can fill in, edit anything you like, then click Use to replace your message or Use & Send to send it straight away.

Does it work as a ChatGPT prompt optimizer?

Yes. The optimized prompt goes back into the normal MultipleChat message box, so you can send it to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok or Perplexity, or to several models at once in Compare mode.

Will it change my facts, links or code?

No. The optimizer is built to keep your intent and not invent new facts. URLs, numbers, filenames and code blocks are preserved exactly as written, and the rewrite stays in the same language as your input.

Which plan includes the Prompt Optimizer?

The Prompt Optimizer is part of the Pro plan ($20/month) and the plans above it. The subscription page lists what each plan includes.

How is it different from OpenAI's and Anthropic's prompt optimizers?

OpenAI's Playground and Anthropic's Console both have prompt optimizers aimed at developers who are refining API and system prompts for their own models. MultipleChat's Prompt Optimizer is built for everyday chat: it works on the message you are about to send, and the result can go to any model in the workspace.

Do I still need to learn prompt writing?

It helps, but it isn't required. The optimizer handles structure and format; you add what only you know, such as who the answer is for and what you will do with it. The tips on this page cover the habits that make the biggest difference.
